Emotion Education 101™
Emotion Coaching for Men
Want to learn how to navigate your emotions to have
a deeper connection with yourself and others?
Welcome.
You can learn the skills to be more open and present to your feelings.
Learned Patterns
As children, many of us were taught to ignore or repress our emotions. And as adults, we were never given a basic education on how our emotions work.
This can show up in our adult lives as:
Being hijacked by big emotions that seem to come out of nowhere
Using logic or distraction to repress emotions
Difficulty connecting deeply with others
Unsure how to feel or how to share emotions with others
Experiencing low mood, anxiety or aloneness
“Better to put aside feelings for now.”
“Am I doing this right?”
“I want to feel more open, but I wish there was a roadmap!”
What if there was a roadmap
to walk you through how to
navigate your emotions?
A roadmap that could make
your life more fulfilling and
more connected to those you love.
Hi, my name is Laura and I am a Counsellor living and working in North Vancouver, BC.
I know emotions can be difficult AND I hold a passionate belief that emotions are our wise teachers. The trick is to learn how to navigate them.
This is why I offer Emotion Coaching specifically for men identified folks.
This includes two offerings:
Emotion Education 101™ for Men group
Individual Counselling (offered virtually in British Columbia and Ontario Canada)
Read on to learn more about both of these.
Welcome to Emotion
Coaching for Men
An 8-week live virtual group
Begins Tuesday April 9th, 2024 7-8:30pm
This is for you if you are looking for a group that supports you to navigate emotions in order to land into a calmer, grounded, authentic self. All you need is the willingness - these skills can be learned. Plus being in a group with others creates accountability and inspiration!
We will meet virtually once a week for 90 minutes. Meetings are a combination of learning and group sharing. A group process accelerates your growth and decreases aloneness.
We will work the Change Triangle tool (based on the book It’s Not Always Depression by Hillary Jacobs-Hendel) as a way to listen to the body, discover our emotions and land into our open-hearted vital self.
Think of this group as a practicing ground to navigate emotions and then bring that to your life and relationships. Even if you don’t usually share with others, this group is a low-pressure opportunity to try something new and do something good for yourself.
I invite you to book a free no-obligation 20 minute consultation to determine if this group is a fit for you.
I look forward to you joining us!

The group is designed to be both a learning experience and also an active process where you will experience the teaching and then be able to try it out in your life. You will also have a safe group space where you can share, if you wish, and be encouraged by the experiences of others.
Typically each group we will learn about how emotions work and how to process feelings in ourself and others (see curriculum in the questions below). We may also try a low pressure experiential exercise and there is a time for for refection or sharing.
Overall together we will explore how to:
Form a positive relationship to strong emotions.
Understand your brain in order to regulate the roots of anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges.
Support others in your life, including partners, friends and children, to process their emotions.
Use a simple and effective tool - The Change Triangle - to navigate emotions and emerge with greater connection to oneself and others.
-
A greater connection to yourself
The ability to show up for others with more openness and empathy
More control over emotional hijacks, and/or feeling like retreating when emotions arise.
Feeling a sense of rightness with yourself and others, even when the situation is difficult.
Help in intimate relationships to find a path for the hard times to bring you closer

The Change Triangle is a tool that takes you through a step by step process to move from anxiety, defences or reactivity to your truer calmer self. It does this by getting us accustomed to connecting to our core emotions. The Change Triangle a tool from the award winning book "It's Not Always Depression: Working the Change Triangle to Listen to the Body, Discover Core Emotions and Listen to Your Authentic Self " by Hillary Jacobs Hendel.

When we work on understanding and processing our own emotions, we can then take that to our relationships. If you are in a crisis within your relationship it may be helpful to seek individual or couples counselling. However, if you are looking for a group process to explore and understand emotions in order to bring that to your relationship then the group could be a fit for you. Feel free to schedule a 20 minute consultation to learn more.

The group is a learning experience with therapeutic benefits, however it is not therapy. If you are struggling, in a crisis or are requiring more intensive support then individual counselling may be a better fit. Also you may have a preference for individualized support or the wish to do deeper processing work in a 1:1 context. If you are unsure whether a group work or individual counselling would fit better for you, you are welcome to schedule a 20 minute consultation here.

I hear you. Groups can bring up resistance and take courage to begin. In this group, right from the get-go we create group guidelines that allow for safety and confidentiality.
I have found that groups have a life of their own in the sense that the energy of the group creates a supportive space. Also there is low-pressure to participate, and all are welcome. You will be able to learn from others and take that learning with you. You are welcome to schedule a free consultation to explore if it is a fit for you.
Don’t see your question?
Individual Therapy
Individual counselling is the opportunity to have a space for you, where you can share with someone not in your life, gain new perspective and new ways of being.
My aim is for you to have an experience in counselling that feels right and in alignment toward your direction or hopes for yourself. People often describe feeling lighter, and more open and understanding themselves and others better. Symptoms such as anxiety, uncontrolled anger, depression and other challenges are also helped in a counselling context.
Your connection with your Counsellor is key for successful outcomes. For that reason, I offer a free virtual 20 minute consultation to meet and see if we are a fit to work together.
I also invite you to view the video below to get a better sense for me and how I work. You can also view my bio here.
I look forward to meeting you!
